Porcelain worktops in Bromley

For a clean, contemporary kitchen, discuss porcelain worktops with us. We can work through your Bromley kitchen layout, the surface design, exposed edges and any island or splashback before setting out the quote.

Look at the surface and the edge together

A photograph often concentrates on the top face of a worktop. Before choosing, ask to see how the selected design looks on an exposed edge and around a sink opening. Clarify whether the decorative appearance continues through the body or needs a particular edge treatment.

For an island with a waterfall end, request a drawing showing the meeting of horizontal and vertical pieces. A surface that looks excellent in a small sample may need more thought when its pattern changes direction across a corner.

Check the specification of the named product

Porcelain and other sintered or ultra-compact surfaces are sometimes discussed together, but their specifications should not be treated as identical. Ask for the technical sheet and approved applications of the actual product. Thickness, finish and fabrication instructions matter.

Dekton is one manufacturer-specific example: Cosentino describes it as a low-porosity, heat-resistant surface, while also giving precautions for prolonged heat and direct flames. It acknowledges that edges can chip. Those details illustrate why a performance claim needs its full instructions, not just a headline.

Bring us into the design early

Ask which edge profiles, corner details and sink options we recommend for your chosen material. Include supports, any seating overhang and the location of joints in the discussion. Leave structural decisions and cutting details to the qualified team responsible for the installation.

For a continuous appearance behind the hob, see the splashback planning page. The worktop, wall panel and appliance instructions all need to work together; a visually matching panel is not by itself proof of suitability.

Compare the complete proposed job

Send your layout to us and ask for a clearly named product rather than a general “porcelain” allowance. Confirm the colour, finish, thickness, fabrication, templating and fitting in writing. Explain access limitations before a single-piece island is agreed.

Use the material comparison to weigh porcelain against the other options. When a quotation arrives, check inclusions with the quote checklist so a lower headline figure is not hiding a different scope.

Product care references

Manufacturer guidance checked September 2026. These references do not imply a supply partnership; the selected product’s current instructions apply.

Questions people ask

Does porcelain always have a thin edge?

The available slab thickness and finished edge effect depend on the product and fabrication. Ask to see the exact edge construction proposed for your kitchen.

Is every porcelain product suitable outdoors?

Do not assume so from the material name. Require written confirmation of the named product’s intended application and installation requirements.
